To many people, Tanah Lot epitomizes the romantic island of Bali. This is the image of Balinese temples on the rock facing the wide open ocean, perched high above the crashing waves below, with as background the colorful sky at dusk, lit by the slowly disappearing setting sun.
Located in the sea some 300 meters from shore, the huge rock of Tanah Lot is reachable overland at low tide. On its northern side stand two Balinese temples built on an overhanging cliff which connects the islet to the shore. Underneath the rock are caves that are inhabited by sea snakes, believed to be the guardians of the temples.
At the entrance lane to Tanah Lot you will find many art shops offering local handicrafts besides other products like T-shirts, Balinese sarongs, hats, sandals, accessories, paintings, woodcarvings, and more. Here you will also find stalls selling food and drinks.
The best time to visit Tanah Lot is during Odalan, which is celebrated every 210 days, near the Galungan and Kuningan festivities on the holy day known as Buddha Cemeng Langkir. On this day you will see rows of Balinese women gracefully carrying offerings on their head to pray at the temple of Tanah Lot.
The tourist area of Tanah Lot near the rock is very well managed for visitors. It has a parking area, toilets, art shops, restaurants, hotel, open stage, tourist information centre, and security and safety services. Your ticket also covers insurance against accidents.

Named green bowl because of its algae-covered rocks that are seen at low tide, Green Bowl Beach could have become the next big tourist destination. But the demolishment of nearby Bali Cliff Resort left the beach as an abandoned paradise, which remains known to only a select few. Although the beach is difficult to find due to tricky turns down a few tiny roads, it is a stunning example of Bali’s natural beauty,still natural and clean beach. To get to the beach, you have to descend hundreds of steep concrete steps,and many monkey around the stair, before you can sink your feet into the sand. Green Bowl Beach is also famed for its resident population of bats living in beachside caves – you can often see hundreds of sleeping bats at noon. Jatiluwih Rice Terraces in Bali Cultural Landscape Heritage Site in Tabanan Jatiluwih rice terraces pretty much cover the region of the namesake upland village in West Bali, most famous for its landscapes that are both dramatic and truly exotic. The site is one of the island’s must-see natural panoramas on par with Mount Batur and the caldera of Kintamani. The cool highlands and the breathtaking scenery of this village at the foot of Mount Batukaru makes for wonderful photo opportunities, and serves as a soothing retreat away from the island’s crowded south. Once a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site candidate, Jatiluwih rice terraces comprises over 600Ha of rice fields that follow the flowing hillside topography of the Batukaru mountain range. These are well-maintained by a traditional water management cooperative known as ‘subak’, which dates back to the 9th century. The cooperative itself eventually won recognition as a dominant factor in Bali’s ‘cultural landscape’ entry on the heritage list.

The Ubud Water Palace is located on Jalan Ubud Raya, very near the market and next door to the Lotus Cafe. In the daytime, it is nice, with large lotus ponds reflecting the gorgeous Balinese architecture of the Palace facade.
